✈️ Emirates Points Transfer Shutdown: What You Need to Know

Hey there points enthusiasts! Welcome back to Smart With Points. I'm so excited to be with you today because we've got some pretty important news to share, especially if you're planning any Emirates flights this summer.

You know how we love being spontaneous with our points transfers? Well, Emirates is about to throw a bit of a spanner in the works. They've just announced a complete shutdown of their points transfer system from 29th May through 18th June two thousand and twenty-five. That's a full three weeks where you won't be able to move those precious points from programs like American Express Membership Rewards into Emirates Skywards.

Now, if you're sitting there thinking about your summer travel plans, you've basically got two options. First, you could transfer your points now - it only takes about two working days, and you only need a minimum of one thousand points to get started. Or, if you're not quite ready to commit, you'll need to wait until after 18th June when the system comes back online.

But don't panic! There are some workarounds if you need to book during the outage. If you've already got some Skywards miles in your account, you can still use those. You might also want to consider booking through partner programs like Qantas Points, or even looking at cash tickets with a points rebate option.

This situation really highlights why we always recommend maintaining balances across multiple programs. It's like that old saying - don't put all your eggs in one basket, or in this case, don't put all your points in one program!

I've got to say, as someone who loves planning redemptions months in advance, these kinds of outages are a bit frustrating. But what really concerns me is thinking about those travelers who might need to make emergency bookings during this period. It reminds me of when Singapore Airlines ran that incredible forty percent off Spontaneous Escapes promotion earlier this year - imagine if there had been a transfer outage during that!

If you're a frequent Emirates flyer, this might be a good time to explore some alternative routings with oneworld or Star Alliance carriers. And remember, you can always use our Smart Redemptions tool to help find these alternatives when you're searching on Google Flights.
